Kaffir Lime or Citrus hystrix is a fruit native to Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and some regions of Southeast Asia. It popularly known as makrut in Thailand; limau purut in Indonesia and Malaysia.

The Kaffir lime is a rough, bumpy little green fruit with sparkling aromatic and distinctively shaped of "double leaves". 

Besides playing an important role in the South East Asian cuisine, Kaffir lime essential oil has effective bactericidal effect on bacterial strains which is very helpful in medicinal preparation.
